MINUTES OF THE SIXTH MEETING OF THE

DERBYSHIRE CHRONIC PAIN SUPPORT STEERING GROUP

The sixth meeting of the Derbyshire Chronic Pain Support Steering Group was held on Tuesday 9 April 2002, at the Guinness Trust Community Room, 1 Sidney Street, Derby.

Attendees:            Mark Charity (Chairperson), Janet Owen (Secretary), Steve Wilson,

Paul Hearne (Treasurer), Eileen Hogg, Margaret Whitehurst, Ray Whitehurst, Jacklin Moss, Derek Woodward, Rolande Ambiel-Derry, Derek Mann

Apologies:            Sandra Cunningham

Mark Charity (Chairperson) opened the meeting by welcoming introducing and thanking everyone who attended.

Minutes from the last meeting held on 12 March 2002 were approved and signed as a true record.

1. Advertising

We have to approve a format of the posters presented at this meeting, to enable us to get our advertising out in the community.   Getting the printing done by professional printers is going to cost too much, therefore we have to find an alternative.   The suggestion was made that it would be cheaper if we printed our own, Mark said the cost of cartridges are £35, but if we had the printing done by the professionals it would cost £100 for 250 coloured copies.   Jacklin said that she could get cartridges a lot cheaper from a local supplier that she dealt with and offered to give us the suppliers name to find out how much it would cost for the cartridges to be used for the printing of our posters.   Derek Mann offered to do the copying of the posters for the cost of the paper and the ink cartridges.

It was also discussed where the posters should be distributed and we came up with the following suggestions –

Mark considered that we needed to have the personal touch by handing the posters out ourselves (where possible) with the exception of the outer areas of Derbyshire, rather than just posting them with a letter.   Jacklin said there may be a possibility of her husband being able to help with the distribution of the posters

Steve to urgently contact the Derby Evening Telegraph regarding putting an article in the local paper about living with chronic pain and the group which we are setting up.

2.  Video – World of Pain

A video was shown on channel 5 some time ago and we decided to try and get a copy for the group, Sandra contacted them and was told that it was a company called Lion Television that had made the video.   She contacted them and was sent a contract that we had to sign before we could have a copy of the video, there were a couple of items which needed clarifying before signing the contract.    Mark contacted them by phone and informed them why we needed a permanent copy, they asked us to send a letter to this affect and they would send us a copy of the video free of charge.

3.  Funding/Finances

Mark found from the Internet a funding organisation called the Derbyshire Community Foundation where we can apply for funding for the group.   There is an application form that needs to be filled in, Mark and Paul agreed to do this, and the form has to be in by June.

Mark asked Paul for £20 petty cash.

4.  A.O.B

Mark rang Littleover Church to make an appointment to view the church’s community rooms with a view to using them for future meetings where there is ample parking and disabled facilities.   Another suggestion was Saint Peters Church Hall, Chellaston.

We have not had a response as yet from Dr Searle regarding the patronage of the group.

5.  Date of Next Meeting

It was agreed that the next meeting be held on Tuesday 30 April 2002, 10.30 am, at the Guinness Trust Community Room, 1 Sidney Street, Derby.
